The City of Long Branch is located just miles from exit 105 off the Garden State Parkway. It is one of the Jersey Shore's oldest beach resort areas. Currently the city is taking steps to redevelop the beachfront to ensure it remains a great place to visit for many years to come. Its guarded beaches are great for swimming, surfing, fishing and more. It has great nightlife and restaurants. The newly built Peer Village features some of the best restaurants, bars and shopping the Jersey Shore has to offer!
There are a number of events that are happening all summer long that are great for the whole family! Check often for the complete schedule of events.

My Unusual High School Experience at the Beach

M.A.S.T. is a co-ed four-year high school located in the Fort Hancock Historic Area at the tip of Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The Marine Academy was founded in 1981 as a part-time program which has since grown to become a full-time diploma-granting program. The school's curriculum focuses on marine sciences and marine technology/engineering.At M.A.S.T., each student is required to participate in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) in lieu of Physical Education. One of the best things about the school is The "Blue Sea," a 65-foot research vessel owned and operated by the Marine Academy. The vessel is used in many of the courses offered at the Marine Academy. The students take many trips aboard the boat and various beaches and marsh area on Sandy Hook to conduct research and field studies.

PNC Bank Arts Center Summer Concert Lineup

The PNC Bank Arts Center is looking to have a great summer of concerts. Come enjoy great music under the stars at affordable prices! The arts center is located in Holmdel, New Jersey right off of exit 116 on the Garden State Parkway. You can usually get cheap lawn seats for most shows. The summer lineup is not complete yet. But, so far upcoming events include; Tom Petty, James Taylor, Don Henley and Stevie Nixx, Montley Crue, Velvet Revolver, Judas Priest and OzzFest. Saturday April 30th Bar Anticipation in Belmar will be having their 24th Annual Spring Bash. The Spring Bash is the official opening of the outdoor bars at Bar A. The event will feature tons of bands including; The Benjamins, Big Orange Cone, Dog Voices, Screaming Broccolli, Undisputed, Blasted, Bitter X, Urban Trip and The Rumrats. It all starts at 2p.m. with free admission until 4p.m. and a free BBQ til 6p.m.

Opening day at Monmouth Park is May 14th! The track opened for training on April 15th, many equine athletes came out and gave the Oceanport oval a try for the first time in 2005.

The season at Monmouth Park lasts 90 days from May 14th through September 25th. Some up coming events at the park include Opening Day which features FREE grandstand admission. Family Fun Day on May 15th where kids can enjoy free clowns, face painters and pony rides. Finally, Preakness Day is May 21st where you can watch and wager on the Preakness Stakes, the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown.

Sea Bright offers recently restored public beaches that are excellent for swimming, fishing, surfing, and picnicking. There are numerous public access beaches in Sea Bright however, only one beach offer lifeguards from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Designated fishing areas are also available. This beach is located in the downtown area at Ocean Ave. and River St., limited free parking is available and beach fees do apply. Other facilities include, bathhouses, picnic areas, a boardwark promenade, and the delicious Sea Bright Beachhouse Grill. Surfing is permitted at Anchorage Beach, just about a half a mile north of the main public beach area. For more beach information call (732) 842-0215.

Sea Bright is one of the best towns in Monmouth County for nightlife. You can find tons of bars and restaurants to suit your mood and tastes. Among the most popular bars are Donovan's Reef, The Mad Hatter, The Cove, and Elements. Donovan's offers a laid back atmosphere with live music and numerous bars.You can enjoy a drink on the beach and enjoy live entertainment from some of the Jersey Shore's best local bands. At the Mad Hatter you can sit on the back deck with friends, and try some of the Hatters famous thin crust pizza while having a few drinks. The Cove's riverfront location is the best place to meet for cocktails while watching the sun set! If you are looking for a place that is a little bit more upscale. Element which is owned by Bon Jovi's brother has the atmosphere of a New York lounge. There are many other small bars to choose from but these are a few that I enjoy going to. There is a little bit of something for everyone in Sea Bright.

The Intercoastal Waterway begins at the Manasquan Inlet and stretches right down to Florida. By using the Intercoastal, a boat can sail the entire passage, without having to use the Atlantic Ocean!

Robert Louis Stevenson was inspired to write Treasure Island in the late 1800s after spending time viewing Osborne Island which is located in the Manasquan River. This island which is just off the Manasquan Bridge and opposite the Point Pleasant Hospital is a favorite stop for boaters out for a cruise on the river. "Treasure Island" which many boaters have come to call it has been a place my family and I have gone for years.

A giant sand buildup at the north end of the Sandy Hook has enabled the penisula to grow substantially over the years. The Sandy Hook lighthouse, completed in 1764 stood 500 feet from the tip of Sandy Hook, but today it stands over a mile and a half from the tip.

Sandy Hook is one of my favorite locations out of the entire New Jersey Shore. It has historical sites, beautiful ocean and bay beaches, a variety of recreational activities for people of all ages and spectacular views of the New York City skyline. Thousands of visitors flock to Sandy Hook year round to experience what this National Park has to offer.

You can begin your visit to Sandy Hook by stopping by the Visitor's Center at Spermaceti Cove where you can collect information on daily activities within the park and tour the Lifesaving Station Museum. The beaches of Sandy Hook are one of the main attractions, they include areas for swimming, surfing, fishing, windsailing and much more. There are exciting water activities for all! Their is one restaurant located in the park; however, snackbars, outdoor eating areas, and changing facilities are located at many beaches. You can find both guarded and unguarded beaches. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, daily park fees do apply.

Another reason to visit Sandy Hook is its Ecotourism. Here you can enjoy bird watching from the Northbeach observation deck, where you can spot over 300 species of birds within the park. Stop by the Audubon Society located on Fort Handcock at the tip of Sandy Hook for more bird wathcing information. Sandy Hook also has extensive salt marshes, sand path hiking trails, bike paths, beautiful native coastal vegetation, and the nation's oldest and largest Holly forest.

Finally, everyone can come enjoy Sandy Hook's historical sites at the Fort Hancock Historical District. This area served as military coastal defense until 1974. It is the home to numerous military fortifications since the American Revolution. You can come experiene what Fort Hancock has to offer by visiting the Sandy Hook Museum. Here you can enjoy a number of guided tours including that of the nation's oldest lighthouse still in use. The lighthouse services the ships entering New York Harbor.

As you can see Sandy Hook has someting for everyone. This six-mile penisula that streches into the lower New York Harbor is a spectacular site to see. It is a location along the Jersey Shore that you must not miss!
